Tuscany is one of the richest and well-known marketplaces for antiques, and it is no coincidence that in each region capital, in Tuscany, and every month, sometimes even every fortnight, more or less extended markets take place. It was estimated that in Tuscany the number of people occupied in various roles within the art market sector is of about 50 thousand adepts, among antiquaries, craftsman labs and restoration schools.
Appointments of particular interest are the fixed dates in Florence, Fiesole (second Sunday of the month) and Lucca (third Sunday of the month and the Saturday before), the Biennial Exhibition in Florence and the Annual National Market Exhibition of antique furniture in Cortona, in the province of Arezzo. And particularly in Arezzo, the first Sunday of every month, the most important appointment for antique lovers takes place.
Among all brocantage markets, the Antiquaria Fair in Arezzo is known throughout Italy both for the city’s tradition (the first shows date back to the beginning of the 60’s), and for the natural beauty of the places where it is held.
The fixed date is the first Sunday of every month and the previous Saturday, and we emphasize the first Sunday and not the first weekend of every month. On the stalls scattered around the city’s roads you will find every antique, modern antiques and collector’s items, particularly ceramics, clocks, furniture and various gift and fancy goods of all kinds.
The Fair develops in an exhibition area that is inspirational both for the artistic value of the places and for the wide area occupied: a great part of the historic centre. From Piazza Vasari , known for the law court’s palace designed by Giorgio Vasari; Piazza della Libertà; Piazza San Francesco, where you will see the basilisk with Piero della Francesca’s works, and along the whole city.
In Arezzo various hundreds of exhibitors take part, not just form Tuscany, but from the whole of Italy really. As well as the exhibition spaces set up along the cities’ ways, there are a considerable number of shops specialised in antiques and private galleries which, in the occasion of the fair, remain open and can therefore be visited.
