At the recent inauguration of the new wing of the Stibbert Museum Foundation five more rooms, completely restored, are added to the majestic and monumental European china.
Four halls host objects from the de Tschudy collection, donated by the Baron de Tschudy to the Municipality of Florence in 1889, among which some 17th and 8th century Neapolitan furniture. Unique masterpieces of handicraft working: Doccia's 1750 china, Capodimonte, Vienna, Meissen.
The China collection which belonged to the baron de Tschudy groups works of small plastic, white statuettes in colour of the main Italian and European handicrafts, as well as precious pottery.
In the fifth hall on the other hand we find the porcelains from the Stibbert's collection among which some that served the family, of the Compagnia delle Indie, as well as porcelains of the late French 18th century from the handicraft «De la Reine», Parisian and English handicrafts.
Frederick Stibbert's collection gathers examples of admirable craftsmanship in the technique of porcelain working that was reached in Europe and in China (an example would be the production of the handicraft Compagnia delle Indie imported by Stibbert's grandfather, Giles) around the 19th century.
The great collections the baron bequeathed to the Municipality of Florence, are unique works which have permitted the opening of a section dedicated exclusively to European porcelains.
