In association with the Historical archive of the Biennale di Venezia, Saturday 15 June the exhibition «Man Ray. L'immagine fotografica» begun in the monumental complex of San Micheletto, seat of the Fondazione Ragghianti in Lucca.
A journey dedicated to American director, painter and photographer Man Ray (1890-1976) in his best known profession: that of photographer, which has made him a famous artists at the beginning of the Nine hundreds, since 1920 to be precise, which is when he moved to Paris.
The exhibition is a collection of 160 photographs, a collection commissioned by Man Ray himself for the large exhibition held during the Biennale di Venezia of 1976. The historical archive of the Biennale has kept the selection and order required by the American artist in the occasion of the exhibition in the lagoon city intact.
Images that represent an artistic production range of over 50 years of activity for one of the Avant-garde masters in the XX century. The poster for the Lucca exhibit is precisely Man Ray's most famous image, «Le Violon d'Ingres» (in the picture), done in 1924.
During the exhibition period there will also be a projection with presentation of some of the artist's films, which are considered fundamental works of twentieth century experimental cinema. Also expected a day of study in association with the historical archive of contemporary arts of the Biennale di Venezia, with some of Italy's major specialists of history of visual arts, cinema and photography.
