«Brunello» of Montalcino
The history of the precious «Brunello» of Montalcino finds its roots in the distant 1842, a year in which in a document there is trace of the wine produced with the grapes of the «Brunello» vine.
Some decades pass before arriving to the one that is famous all over the world now, it will be a young oenologist of the time – we are around 1870 - Ferruccio Biondi who will experiment new ways of wine making working only certain grapes. The first great year dates back to 1888.
In 1967 the Consortium of the «Brunello» Wine of Montalcino is created, a little bit after obtaining the D.O.C. recognition. (In the photograph the «Greppo» Estate of Franco Biondi Santi)
