   Bertolucci and "L'amore probabilmente"

"My latest film is called "L'amore probabilmente" and my name is Bertolucci. Giuseppe Bertolucci". Specifying is a must for someone who shares his surname with Attilio, the father, and Bernardo, the brother. A poet the former, magniloquent director the latter.

Giuseppe, who finds himself at home in Tuscany especially after the cinema debuts with the cult-film "Berlinguer ti voglio bene", returns to Florence to present his last film with two of his protagonist actors: Sonia Bergamasco and Fabrizio Gifuni, a couple on screen and in real life.

"I thought about the film two years ago -the director said - and yet "L'amore probabilmente" has taken shape - the only one possible - only owing to the use of a digital videocamera. A real Copernican revolution: the digital allows working ay much lower prices especially in the editing phase rather than during the takes ".

If it is true that the medium is the content it is also true that, in this case, technological experimenting doesn't change what have always been the stylistic coordinates of Giuseppe Bertolucci who confirms himself a director who loves details, of small and metaphorical stories. A lover of cinema made of and by actors: with their body their words their gestures.

"Owing to the use of the light videocamera I could follow my characters including the rehearsals in the film, the game between director-lens-actor was continuous; especially with Sonia whom, as a stage actress, debuting here on the big screen, has reacted very well. I like, after all, discovering new talents, as I have done with Benigni many years ago. I love the theatre-cinema and I especially love the monologue, I consider it the sublimation of acting ".

... Bertolucci's loves are many, including the one for the Tuscan land -"L'amore probabilmente" is set partly in Lucca- few, on the other hand, the concessions made for the spectators, hard tested by a fascinating yet cerebral film: an incessant dialogue between reality, fiction, lies, truth and illusion. Just like love. Probably.
