Mercantia international theatre festival has reached its 15th edition this year. From Tuesday 23rd to Sunday 28th July, both in the medieval village and in the central streets of Certaldo (Florence), there will be an edition full of shows and performance, subdivided by theme.
There will be mimes directed by Bianca Francioni; the great street parades with bands like Funk Off or the multiethnic "Parata Kebab; theatre groups from the five continents, jugglers, fire eaters and ballad singers.
In the cloister of the "Giardino delle suore" an unusual lyrical cafe will be set up with Claudio Cinelli; and more ethnical music, the fires of the "bottega del Drago Nero", Frate Cipolla's sermons, the "One man band" festival.
But that's not all there is to it. Mercantia also moves to the table setting up two spaces. The first in the higher town village along via Boccaccio, with a selection of cold and hot dishes, traditional Tuscan specialties such as pappa al pomodoro (tomato based soup) or bread soup. The second will be in the lower city and is called "La via dei sapori" offering a varied and surprising mix of flavours to delight adults and children alike.
