"La repubblica delle banane", the float built by Simone Politi and Federica Lucchesi, won first prize for the best allegorical
float of the Viareggio Carnival 2002. At second and third place respectively: "Incredibile" by Arnaldo Galli and "Carnevale delle beffe con la chimica a bizzeffe" by Massimo Breschi. Fourth place for "La pace sia con voi" by Fabrizio Galli which won the online survey.

The public that attended the fifth and last nocturnal parade of the Carnival was huge. The Viareggio Carnival, was favoured by the moderately warm day and by the sun that invaded the Versilia coast in the afternoon. A last goodbye to the 129th edition and the election of the first category float that won this year.
"La repubblica delle banane", an ironic, colourful and exuberant float in all its forms that points the attention on politics and the new republic. A First Minister, Silvio Berlusconi, takes on the appearance of an exuberant and alluring soubrette sat on a huge banana surrounded by two "glamgirls" who recall Casini at her left and Pera at her right in their faces.
And around superb and lush nature from which a group of little trained monkey-ministers peek out: from the coconut trees you discover Hon. Bossi, Moratti, Maroni. A float that, respecting the most classic tradition of Viareggio finds its strength in political satire.
A victory for Simone Politi and Federica Lucchesi, who are not new to the success of the carnival, having won first prize in the year 2000 edition of the prize for the best first category float "Abracadabra" and obtaining a second place in 2001 with "Circus".
