«I luoghi della vita - Premio europeo per le donne fotografe 2001/2002» (Places of life – European prize for women photographers 2001/2002), a completely woman-oriented exhibition opens Saturday 6th of April in Poggio a Caiano, in the province of Prato.

The prize is aimed to all European-resident women who use the photographic camera as a medium to express their art, and has as its aim to make known and encourage unpublished works.

The project, which has reached its fourth biennial edition, proposes as the main topic physical and/or mental spaces, internal journeys and/or events. The prize «I luoghi della vita 2001-2002», which is held in Prato, saw the participation of almost 300 artists from 22 European countries (from Portugal, Lithuania, Yugoslavia, Slovenia, Bulgaria, Herzegovina, Ireland, Norway, Greece, Denmark, Czech Republic, Poland, Luxembourg, Holland, Spain, Austria, France, Belgium, Switzerland, England, Germany and of course Italy).

The prize, which this year was given to Katja Stuke (in the picture, the prize-winning image), will be given to the winner the day of the exhibition’s opening, Saturday 6th April at 3.30 pm.

The «Scuderie medicee» of the Villa di Poggio a Caiano will host the images of some photographers selected by the jury made up of Oliva Maria Rubio (PhotoEspaña Artistic Director, Madrid), Laura Serani (Director of Photo Galleries FNAC, Paris) and Roberta Valtorta (photography historian and organiser of the preliminary activities to the creation of the Museo di Fotografia Contemporanea at Villa Ghirlanda in Cinisello Balsamo, Milano).
