In 2001, after almost twelve years of works and interventions to avoid structural damage, the Pisa Tower, the best known in the world Italian monument, was reopened.
And since the 15 December 2001 the tower is once more accessible to the public: walking up the 293 steps you can reach the tower's summit, until the balustrade above the bell cell of one of the most extraordinary monuments of human genius.
The municipality of Pisa launches an unprecedented initiative. For the months of July and August, the leaning tower will remain open to the public beyond the normal opening times, at night with the possibility of admiring the night-time view of piazza dei Miracoli and the whole city.
A special lighting of the trail that allows maximum 30 people at the time to climb up to the splendid Pisan belltower. In the month of July the tower will be open on the days 19, 20, 26 and 27 and all Fridays and Saturdays in august (2, 3, 9, 10, 16, 17, 23, 24, 30 and 31). Five groups will be able to enter, one every 40 minutes more or less, starting at 8.30 pm until 11.50 pm.
The leaning tower of Pisa, since 1173, as soon as it was finished building, acquired an inclined position with respect to the ground. Since then Bonanno Pisano's bell tower has become the symbol of a city, Pisa, which every year attracts thousands of tourists and visitors from all over the world.
