«Percorso Arretium», between history and curiosity
An open sky museum. The city of Arezzo, as many others in Tuscany, is also this, and starting from this precept the Town hall has just finished preparing the «Percorso Arretium», a didactic itinerary that unfolds from San Domenico to Santa Maria delle Grazie and is explained through 113 explicative panels in English and Italian containing historical-artistic news, curiosities and anecdotes. In this journey every place that is considered a crucial stage in the history and the artistic heritage of the city of Arezzo there is a panel with news and curiosities.
Sometimes, plaques will be found next to another original journey organised a year ago: the eight showcases placed in the locations where Arezzo was used as the background for Roberto Benigni's «La vita è bella» with photos and dialogues (in two languages) concerning those scenes.
In the foyer of palazzo Chianini Vincenzi a visitor will find another novelty, a true business card of the city: the small bronze busts of 25 figures that make up Arezzo and its territory's historical legacy (from Mecenate to Guido d'Arezzo, from Tetrarca to Masaccio and Piero della Francesca, and then Michelangelo, Pietro Aretino, Vasari, just to mention a few).
A bilingual brochure is distributed free illustrating briefly the biographies of the great Arezzo-born, the city's didactic itinerary and also curious facts about the great figures who included Arezzo in their journey.
