The great success of the past edition of the «Open cellars» day sets excellent expectations for the 2002 edition, the last Sunday of May, the 26th, dedicated to «Bacchus’ nectar» in Italian wine producing businesses.
In Tuscany there is great activity to prepare for the reception of tasters and visitors into the businesses on the regional territory or which are listed in the wine roads. The Rùfina and Pomino Chianti Wine Road launches an initiative destined to last a whole year: the «Chianti Rùfina Passport», a sort of privileged access key to territory and the cellars that are part of it.
To obtain the passport it is enough to visit at least three wine producing businesses associated to the Wine Road during Open Cellars, and collect the stamps on a form that you can find in all the businesses. Handing in the form with the three stamps to the meeting point of the Wine Roads, at the Poggio Reale Villa in Rufina, you can then obtain the passport.
This document, which is strictly personal, (valid until the 24th May 2003) gives the right to receive a 10% discount in all restaurants of the Road and on all wine purchases made in the companies associated with the Rùfina and Pomino Chianti Wine Road and at the Chianti Rùfina Wine Cellar of Poggio Reale Villa.
The initiative is repeated the next weekend, in the occasion of «Toscanello d'Oro», the appointment with Chianti Rùfina wines held in Pontassieve. From Thursday 30th May until Sunday 2nd of June, the wine cellar of Toscanello in the square of the Municipality of Pontassieve, all those purchasing wines for a minimum worth of 25 euro will automatically have the right to receive the Chianti Rùfina passport.
It is therefore an initiative that means to reate a network of «friends» of Chianti Rùfina and of the Chianti Rùfina and Pomino Wine Road e and an invitation to return various times in this wonderful countryside just outside Florence which as well as great wines can offer art, history, culture, natural beauties and a lively gastronomic tradition.
