«Forme del narrare», describing the other, as well as others' written descriptions. The project, which explores European and extra European contemporary literatures and cultures, designed by the «Grafio» association in Prato, started its appointments the past 12 April with Cameroon sociologist Geneviève Makaping.
An ambitious and prestigious project which is born as a journey around and within «other» cultures, removed from stereotypes and clichés, and which every year succeeds in involving writers of great calibre, for their intellectual stature and existential journeys.
We saw it in the previous editions, with the public crowding the conferences and workshops and it will probably b the same this year with the programme organised by the event's patron Gianni Cascone, president of Grafio, with the help and support of institutions such as the Assessorship for Culture of the Province of Prato.
Between writers and scholars, called to reflect on how their culture represents the world, with particular attention for Africa and the Far east, in Prato as well as Marc Augé (25 May), there will be Iranian writer Kader Abdolah the 23rd April (in the picture), Carlo Sini (10 May), and finally Ugandan Moses Isegawa (27 September).
As usual, the project, which will be held at the Palazzo Novellucci in Prato, divides in three moments: writing conferences and seminars with the authors (conferences are free to enter, the seminars need registering), and writing labs for young immigrants and Italians, collected under the title «Da nessuna parte e ovunque» (Nowhere and anywhere).
As well as «Forme del narrare», Grafio has started, with Mirtha Paula Mazzocchi, a research on writing and multimedia (World Wide Writers). For information and registrations: Associazione culturale Grafio via Fra' Bartolomeo, 39 - 59100 Prato Tel/Fax +39 0574 281 73.
