The fifth edition of Montecatini Terme 's Music Season «Estate Regina», started the 3rd of June until the 23rd of September in the name of Rossini and France, in the enchanting and historical setting of the Sala Regina of Tamerici Terme.
Montecatini Terme's Musical season means four months of extraordinary music owing to the participation of some of the greatest performers: Oren, Ahronovic, Julia Jones, Lucchesini, Cristiano Rossi, Eggen, Berio; as well as the essential contribution of the Regina Orchestra made up by the best elements of the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino.
A number of appointments not to be missed: the concerts of the Florence Music Ensemble, with the pianist Giuseppe Tavanti. And then a homage to Olivier Messiaen in the tenth anniversary of his death, in association with the French Cultural Institute: a show on the «Quatuor pour la fin du temp», for clarinet, violin, violoncello and pianoforte, with Ugo Pagliai as narrating voice.
The aim of the festival is to rediscover and valorise the cultural tradition of Montecatini and particularly of the thermal spas, which were a privileged meeting place for the higher circles of European Culture, just like many other thermal locations.
Gioachino Rossini, Verdi, Catalani, Ricordi, Leoncavallo, Mascagni, Puccini, Giordano, Franchetti, Cilea, Boito, D'Annunzio, Strauss, Pizzetti, Zandonai, Toscanini and Caruso are just some of the illustrious guests who have stayed for long periods in Montecatini. Florence's Orchestra Stabile itself, later to be known as the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino Orchestra, moved there during the summer to perform under the guidance of prestigious directors.
