Cinigiano, Campagnatico, Civitella Paganico and part of the municipalities of Castel del Piano, Arcidosso, Seggiano and Roccalbegna. Seven towns of the province of Grosseto with a single common denominator: a strong wine vocation, recognised in July 1998 with the institution of the Wine road of Montecucco.
Prized and appreciated wines which under the single denomination of Montecucco offer: Rosso, Riserva, Bianco Sangiovese and Vermentino, and make up the production of the most recent wine road to be recognised in Tuscany.
A few months ago the Museum of the vine and wine in the central square of Montenero d'Orcia was opened; whereas in Cinigiano the Information Centre is already active: here you can find all the news concerning the 5 itineraries promoted by the Grosseto Wine road, the products of the over 120 associated companies and places of greater artistic and historical interest. Inside the information centre there is also a tasting room where you can appreciate the area’s Doc labels.
A production area with «neighbours» of great prestige: the wine roads Monteregio in Massa Marittima, of Nobile di Montepulciano and the production area of the Morellino di Scansano.
Montecucco, the red wine produced with 60% of Sangiovese grapes and the same percentage of Tuscan Trebbiano used for white wine making, is suitable for combinations with the local production.
Rosso with cold meats, meats and cheeses; Rosso Riserva appropriately matches dishes based on wildfowl, roast meats and matured cheeses; and finally the Bianco optimally combines with fish, soups and starters in general.
Montecucco is not just wine however, we cannot forget the production of honey and oil (particularly that of the Municipality of Seggiano which has recently obtained DOP recognition), chestnuts and all those products that characterise the beautiful lands of the Tuscan Maremma.
Travelling through Maremma’s flavours through old towns and stunning locations: Porrona’s castle; the temple of contemporary art on the Monte Amiata: Daniel Spoerri’s Garden and the lush and fascinating nature that envelopes this Maremma inland area and the Monte Amiata faunal park.
