   Young Tuscan theatre is reborn
Tuscan theatre is re-born owing to the strength of young and promising theatre groups, who give the big audience the task of discovering the potential of what is considered "the hidden theatre".
"Il debutto di Amleto", an initiative dedicated to Tuscany's young theatre companies, has involved twenty-five new groups and managed to bring them onto the prestigious stage of Florence's Teatro della Pergola.

The young companies are becoming an ever stronger and incisive reality in Tuscany. This is what results from a survey done, for the second consecutive year, which counted the beauty of 192 companies compared to the 148 of the previous year, that means 44 groups more than 2000. A very dynamic and constantly growing reality which tackles the stage not just with classic genres, but also with street and social theatre.

The "Debutto di Amleto" was an opportunity for many theatrical situations, those defined "hidden", a moment to emerge and make more stable their presence on stage, to affirm growth in front of stable theatres' administrators and directors.

The Tuscan theatre is therefore re-conquering vigour also owing to grants some companies have benefited from, who participated at the 2000 edition of the event, obtaining a regional financing for the "young theatre groups" category. Among the beneficiaries of the grants are Siena's "Libera università del teatro", "Antiche Prigioni" in Pieve Santo Stefano (Arezzo); the "Centrale dell'arte" of Florence; Massa's "Auras"; "Negrogatto" in Scandicci (Florence); "Guarda l'Europa" from Florence.

"Debutto di Amleto" leaves space to another initiative which encourages the re-birth of young theatre in Tuscany, a project is in fact underway born of a collaboration between the Tuscany Region and the Ministry for Foreign Affairs.
Expectations, anticipated by the assessor to culture of the Tuscany Region Mariella Zoppi, during the round table held at the end of the event in the Pergola Theatre, are those of taking some of the companies' performances to Italian culture institutes abroad. Hence the possibility to go on scene, starting in 2002, in various parts of the world.
