Buddhism is a religious movement which finds a growing number of followers that are fascinated by Buddha’s doctrine. The young son an Indian raja brought up in Princely luxury and comforts, who when he turned 35 started to help human beings needy of deep mercy and the wish to save them. Buddha’s message was of conquering in his life hope and happiness through will and intellect.
For over 2500 years, Buddha’s message has been followed by millions of faithful in the world. His doctrine also found roots in Tuscany where, in a sanctuary immersed in the green hills of Livorno, in what is considered the little «Italian Tibet », Buddhist Karma is taught at the Lama Tzong Khapa Institute in Pomaia, an ancient castle transformed into a sanctuary in 1976 by a community of monks and laymen.
The Lama Tzong Khapa Institute is open to all those who want to approach Buddha’s teachings and pursue the knowledge and the practice of the Dharma. Philosophical precepts accompany you in the knowledge and awareness of the way of meditative thought which becomes a daily practice. Pomaia’s institute offers visitors purification, sacred dance courses and disciplines such as Hatha yoga and Ayurvedic medicine, but also ritual collective meetings. There are also courses and workshops organised at various times of the year.
You may stay at the sanctuary where food and lodging cost between 20 and 40 euro per person a day. To reach the Lama Tzong Khapa Institute you must take the state road Aurelia connecting Livorno to Grosseto, in the direction of Grosseto. Exit Rosignano Solvay following directions to Rosignano Marittimo and from here towards Pomaia.
