The origin of Panforte dates back to the 12th century, initially it was «Panpepato con miele» (peppered bread with honey), then spices were added and soon the fame and the goodness of the dessert passed beyond the Siena borders.
In the 1400’s in Venice it was a custom to enjoy the classic «Panforte», prepared in accordance to «the ancient Siena way», in the occasion of important celebrations; in Genoa’s archives it is mentioned as one of the best known desserts of Italy.
Sapori has been producing it since 1832 and offers some delicious versions: the ancient medieval recipe with candied fruit, almonds and aromatic spices, «Panforte Morbido» (soft panforte), the chocolate one with cocoa, minced orange and whole toasted almonds.
Also added are the new «Panforte Sapori» without candied fruits and with fruit (apricots, prunes, apples, coconut) whole almonds and again the «Panforte Novello», the «Trancetti» , the famous «Ricciarelli» and many other sweet deliciousness.
