A long road coasted with cypresses, just like Carducci’s ode «Davanti a San Guido» immortalised, leads to the small inhabited centre of Bolgheri, in the province of Livorno. A long road that seems to never end, alternating delicate humps reflect magical light and shadow effects on the road created by the majestic «alti e schietti» (tall and proud) lead to the medieval village.
The arch gate of the ancient red bricked 16th century castle with the nobility coat of arms of the Gherardesca family, leads into the inside of the village which saw young Giosuč Carducci spend his years of youth beginning in 1838.
Odes and poetry are dedicated to this small Tuscan village, odes that have slipped in history and literature books. And the charm of the period has remained in the air, in the corner of the small square a sculpture by Melani depicts "nonna Lucia", so many times sung by Carducci in his poems.
Bolgheri can be recalled for its nature, poetry and the air that’s breathed there, the same atmosphere that, also for those who have already visited the village, leads to the state road until it turns along the san Guido road. Going along the tree-coasted road you perceive the silence that envelops it, the tranquillity of another age.
A land rich with history, nature, art and, unmistakably, good food and delicious and super wines. In fact precisely along the San Guido road you will encounter the seat of the museum of the vine and the wine of the Road of Wine «Costa degli Etruschi», great wines come from these lands: the Sassicaia, Ornellaia and Bolgheri D.o.c..
