A potent and massive Medieval fortress surrounded by walls, immersed in the green of Mediterranean bush between century old trees and the silvery colour of olive tree foliage. A dream?
No, a reality where you can experience an unforgettable holiday, breathing the atmosphere that pervades the court of ancient Castello di Grotti, now a farm business.
South of Siena in Ville Corsano, half way between the Crete senesi and the Val d'Arbia, the farm Castello Grotti (in the picture), as well as applying an eco-compatible agriculture, uses six structures (all independent) annexed to the ancient castle, of which four inside the park and two outside.
The houses' names recall some past history: like the country house «La Guardiola», once the residence for the castle guardian; the «Casa del Fabbro», which in the 1700s worked as the workshop for the local ironmonger, recently restored and furnished with care it holds four bedrooms, lounge with chimney and garden with barbecue.
And then there is «Casa Ballati», a villa on two storeys built at the end of the 1700s immersed in plants of guelder rose, laurel and box the castle's Italian style garden; the «Podere Pozzarello», outside the castle park, maintaining almost unaltered the traditional building of Tuscan holdings of the time: oven, poultry and hayloft.
And if in the middle of this dreamy place you still can return to reality, a few kilometres away you can reach San Gimignano and Volterra, the abbey of San Galgano and of Monte Oliveto, but also Siena where you can take part in the great ritual of the Palio di Siena.
