Immersed in the sweet and ever pleasant hills of the Mugello, San Piero a Sieve holds the splendid architectonic work of the Castello del Trebbio, commissioned by Cosimo il Vecchio de'Medici and built by Michelozzo Michelozzi.
Constructed halfway through the 15th century on the remains of an ancient tower (a few ruins), today it is a privately owned building which still maintains intact the original characteristics and structure. Its unique charm exudes from the powerful walls from which you gaze upon a fantastic view of San Piero a Sieve; the castle rises on a mount right above the Mugello town.
A historical castle which, throughout the centuries, was home to important historical figures: here Giovanni dalle Bande Nere (leader and venture captain, whose history was always enveloped in a halo of mystery) with his wife Maria Salviati and his son Cosimo, first Granduke of Tuscany.
Amerigo Vespucci, the navigator born in the village of Peretola, where the International airport rises that was given his name, stayed in the Medicean castle in 1476.
A magical place in which to discover history hovering in the air among the powerful walls and the ghosts of leaders and navigators of the past. For information contact the municipality of San Piero a Sieve at the number +39 055 848 751.
